As an editor, I truly enjoyed working on “Beyond the Break.” The story is powerful, authentic, and deeply moving. Each page reflects the strength, vulnerability, and love that define the mother–daughter journey at the heart of this book. It’s a rare project that stays with you long after the final chapter.

The weaving of story, faith, and mental health advocacy done by both authors is fantastic. At no point do any of these components go to the wayside or become overbearing. This book came into my life at the right time as this year has been filled with loss but my hope has been restored, to know there is life beyond the break is powerful. The authors evoke feelings of care through exhaustion and love through pain. While I am sure there are parts that we as readers don’t get to see what they do share is soul shaking. I highly recommend this book to those who are navigating loss as well as those who are wresting with God amid/after loss.

This beautiful, emotionally book follows a mother and daughter as they navigate the shifting terrain of grief after losing their son and brother. Though it never avoids sorrow, it reveals the fragile threads of love that endure even in a fractured family.

What stands out most is the author’s honesty in portraying grief in all its forms—its quiet hours, sudden storms, guilt, longing, and rare moments of clarity. The mother’s chapters carry a tender weight as she balances memory with the responsibility of holding her family together, while the daughter’s raw, piercing voice shows how loss reshapes a young person’s sense of self.

Together, the mother and her daughter stories form a portrait of healing as something that comes slowly, in small, hard-won moments: a conversation, a silence, a truth finally spoken. The narrative unfolds with patience and compassion, letting readers feel both the depth of their sorrow and the gradual return of hope.
Despite its heaviness, the book affirms the resilience of love. Grief doesn’t sever bonds; it reshapes them, allowing a new, gentler strength to grow.

Aching, honest, and unforgettable, this is a story for anyone who has known loss and learned—painfully and bravely—to keep living within the space it leaves behind.
